Beechmont Road Cyclone Repairs

Beechmont Road is located in the Gold Coast Hinterlands, QLD, and when ex-Tropical Cyclone Debbie passed through the region producing an intense rainfall event that caused substantial infrastructure damage to 21 locations along the Nerang‐Murwillumbah Road Upper Plateau.

Beechmont Road is located in the Gold Coast Hinterlands, QLD, and when ex-Tropical Cyclone Debbie passed through the region producing an intense rainfall event it caused substantial infrastructure damage to 21 locations along the Nerang‐Murwillumbah Road Upper Plateau.


Due to the substantial damage caused by the cyclone, ten of the worst affected areas along Beechmont Rd required significant Slope Stabilisation Solutions to make the road safe. RAM successfully completed these drilling works using a number of different access techniques.


SOLUTION


RIX Asset Maintenance (RAM), which specialises in completing these types of difficult access works, with their experienced workforce and specialist plant, were contacted by Georgiou/DTMR to undertake the installation of Anchoring and Rock Fall Protection Systems over the 10 sites.


RAM completed the following:


  • Rope access Scaling
  • Self Drilling Anchors
  • Ground Anchors to 24m depth
  • Rockfall Drape
  • Shotcrete
  • Geobrugg TECCO Mesh


All face treatments included grid bolting with heavy machinery as well as difficult access drilling equipment. Areas with collapsing ground were drilled with Ishebeck self drilling anchors and in a number of areas temporary casing. Geobrugg TECCO Mesh, Greenax and extensively reinforced shotcrete were used.
