The site at Namestone suffered significant instabilities due to a landslide in 2020. The Pinnak Sandstone is highly fractured causing collapsing ground and large wedges that have undergone relaxation presenting a significant Rock Fall Hazard to motorists.
Rix Asset Maintenance (RAM) were contracted to undertake the installation of post tensioned ground anchors, rock bolts and rock fall mesh. This is the first project in Australia to use self-drilling anchors with a sheathed free length for post tensioning which achieves the 100-year design life requirements.
Due to relaxation of wedges RAM redesigned the system to incorporate Geobrugg Spider Mesh.
