SLOPE STABILISATION

CLIENT: SEE Civil

LOCATION: CurrumbinCreek Rd Currumbin Waters, QLD 4223

DESIGN:  4 Sites of Gabion basket retaining wall installation

PROJECT OVERVIEW

Four sites with gabion basket retaining wall construction were identified as part of the treatment requirements for the DRFA Event 22AFI – Currumbin Creek Rd (2001) Slope Remediation, Gold Coast City Council package. The slopes along Currumbin Creek Rd in the designated treatment areas are continuously affected by the tidal movements of Currumbin Creek. This persistent erosion has led to tension cracks and further damage to the road surface, posing a significant risk to the integrity of Currumbin Creek Rd, a heavily trafficked public roadway. The progressive deterioration due to slope instability necessitated immediate intervention to ensure public safety and maintain the road's usability.

SOLUTION

  • RAM was engaged by SEE Civil as a subcontractor to perform the installation of gabion baskets at four different site locations.
  • AM’s engineering team assessed the site construction material requirements and procured materials to project specifications, ensuring material availability and timely site deliveries according to the project schedule.
  • RAM assembled, installed, framed, filled with rock, and detailed the installation of 893 gabion baskets of various sizes according to product installation guidelines and design requirements.
  • Over 1,100 cubic meters of gabion basket volume were installed and filled with design-specified rock.
  • RAM utilised fall arrest and rope access support to ensure the safety of our crew while performing the work.
  • The project extended over 2 years, with breaks between site locations.
  • Between 5 to 12 of RAM's expert technicians worked safely on this site throughout the project duration.

Plant used:

  • 5 tonne excavator
  • 185 CFM compressor
  • Spannex guns
