SLOPE STABILISATION

CLIENT: Transport Main Roads, TMR

LOCATION: Narrowleaf Rd, Advancetown

COMPLETION: 2023

DESIGN: Rope Access, Drilling, Grouting, Shotcrete

PROJECT OVERVIEW

An existing batter located on Narrowleaf Rd, Advancetown was identified by TMR as showing signs of instability.

The progressive deterioration due to weather and slope instability necessitated immediate intervention to maintain the road's usability and to ensure public safety for the property that was located directly above the batter. Geotechnical Engineers conducted a comprehensive inspection of the area of concern which stretched 100m adjacent to Narrowleaf Road and extended 10m high. It was concluded that action was necessary to secure the area and ensure road safety.

SOLUTION

In response to the identified challenges, RIX Asset Maintenance (RAM) was contracted by RoadTek through TMR to implement a slope stabilisation solution. RAM's team evaluated the site's construction material requirements and sourced materials to project specifications, ensuring availability and timely delivery in accordance with the project timeline. The initial phase involved the removal of large unsafe rocks and debris from the slope, followed by the drilling and installation of 16mm Galvanized bars at 2m intervals. Additionally, a rat wall was constructed at the top of the batter to assist with runoff before completing the site reinforcement with SL82 mesh and shotcrete.

Rock Fall Protection works included:

  • Scaling and the removal of debris and unstable rocks from both the East and West cuts
  • 223m 16mm Galv Bar Anchors, which required more than 1484 litres of grout
  • 750m2 of SL82 ribmesh.
  • 281m3 shotcrete

PLANT

  • 20m Boom Pump
  • 20m Truck EWP
  • High Reach Tele Drill
  • RAM Rope Access Wagon Drill

QUALITY

Rix Asset Maintenance (RAM) delivered the design and construct despite encountering limited initial design specifications upon arrival at the site. RAM's proactive approach included recommending additional safety measures to enhance the overall site safety. The collaborative efforts and commitment to excellence demonstrated by all parties involved led to the successful completion of the project within the specified parameters and to the satisfaction of the client.
